On October 18th, 2023, IMS hosted its much-anticipated annual Open Days, drawing students, teachers, professionals, and researchers from various scientific fields. The event served as a dynamic platform for sharing groundbreaking research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and sparking innovative ideas in science and technology.
Among the many highlights was a poster presentation titled "Hydroconversion of Advanced Non-Conventional Feedstocks: Impact of Co-Processing," presented by PhD student Arij Hassine and Professor Pedro Mendes. Their research delved into the challenges and opportunities of co-processing in advanced feedstocks, contributing valuable insights into sustainable fuel technologies.
Another standout presentation came from researcher Laura Esteves, who showcased her work on the "Development of a New Generation of Sulfur-Free Hydroconversion Catalysts for Aviation Fuels Production." Co-authored by PhD student Cristian Navas, researcher Augusto Fernandes, and Professor Filipa Ribeiro, the project focused on innovative catalyst technologies designed to produce cleaner, more sustainable aviation fuels.
Over the course of two days, the IMS Open Days provided a vibrant environment for scientific exchange, highlighting the institute's ongoing commitment to cutting-edge research and environmental innovation.
